March was a hard month for the club. With 18 rain days, it has meant we have had a loss for the month overall. It has been very difficult for the grounds staff, as the extreme weather conditions have taken a bit of a toll on the course. Dave and his team have been working hard to get it back to the condition quality we have all become accustomed too. Unfortunately there is no quick fix, but their efforts should start to show over the next few weeks as the course continues to improve.
It is not all doom and gloom though, we had some pleasing results in the Bar, Bistro and Functions. Typically with the adverse weather conditions it would mean we would have had a loss in these departments. This was not the case in March, the bars were up over 100% in profit and the Bistro and Functions were up almost 30% in profit. This highlights the fact we are attracting people to the club for reasons other than golf, which will be instrumental to our future prosperity.
The overall loss has taken a little bit of the wind out of our sails, but year on year we are on par with the previous year. All things equal we expect to make a similar overall profit to last year, which is still a great result. There are still some capital expense items, such as an upgrade to the till system, which are scheduled to be implemented before the end of the financial year. Whilst this financial year the capital works focus has been on the club house, next year there will be a strong focus on the course and its continual improvement.
Happy golfing
