Let’s start off with some good news. Gary Sammons turns 80 next week and after 60 years of golf he achieved his first hole-in-one on the twelve hole. Gary was well rewarded for his efforts and received 96 Titleist Golf balls. And yes, he did see the ball go in the hole.
Carts
We have experienced a “big wet” over the past few weeks and previously carts would not have been allowed. This would mean that only members that are able to walk the course would be able to play. The GPS system that is now installed on carts allows the club to actively manage the speed of the cart and the areas that the carts are able to access. The speed of the cart (set at 5 or 6 kms) is extremely important as reduced speed increases downward pressure rather than lateral movement, helping minimise turf damage. Obviously, there are many extremely wet areas, and we need to restrict access to these areas. When driving the cart along the fairway you should be able to see a red area on the screen. These are restricted areas and you need to stay clear of these areas. The cart will stop and you will need to put the cart in reverse to return to the fairway. We will continue to get carts on the course whenever we can to ensure our members can play golf. I ask that you follow the carts instructions provided on the day. When wet this will be to maintain speed at 6kms and stay well away from restricted areas. We have substantially reduced the price of the carts for members who store their carts on course.

Pennants
The ladies have completed their pennant series and for a second year in a row they ran second. Well done ladies and we look forward to a first-place next year. The Masters Pennant was finalised for Gosford last week and although we didn’t have a great deal of success we did have a great time with away games at Magenta, Shelly and Toronto. Good luck to Shelly in the quest for another state title. Anyone over 50 who enjoys a good spirited game should give this competition a go next year.
Super Seniors commenced Monday 6 July and we had a four-all draw. We have 8 players with 3 reserves, but we always seem to need a spare. If you’re over 65 years old and would like to have a game give me a call.
Ladies Singles Knockout
Congratulations to Kathy Conn who is the winner of the division 2 event. Jan Fitzgerald finished second. Division 1 had to be postponed but should be completed shortly.
Challenge Cup
Congratulations also go to Gosford’s Challenge Cup Team of Darren Bateman, Sun Park, Soo-Young Hams, Paul Way, Shannon Woodley and Fiona Wales. The team finished in third place overall and Darren Bateman won the Men’s A grade singles.
Local Rules
Please ensure that you regularly have a read of the local rules and the temporary local rules, especially while the council are continuing with their work on the course. You could possibly save a shot or two on your game by knowing the rules. Also note that the local rules encourage call up on par 3’s. This will improve the pace of play when the course gets a bit congested.Free to a good Home
Many dead trees have been removed from the course, and this has created a large amount of MULCH which is ideal for gardens. This mulch is located in the rear carpark, and members are welcome to take as much as they want.We have also accumulated a number of MILK CRATES that are ideal for storage. They are located on the right-hand side as you enter the rear carpark.
