Superintendent Report – September 2018

August 1, 2018 | Michelle Halloway

Superintendent’s Report – September 2018

Summary of works

August brought with it 2mm of rain, 76mm down on the average rainfall for the month.

  • August         2018………………Rainfall               (Average 78mm)
  • September  2018………………Rainfall               (Average 53mm)

Year to date we have had 461mm of rain, 320mm down compared to  this time last year. The state

of N.S.W is in 100% drought and we at Gosford Golf Club are no different.

The average night time temperature for August was 6.4 degrees.

The average day time temperature for August was 19 degrees.

The soil Temperature is 13 degrees.

The greens are currently getting cut at 3mm.

The growing season for us has started. We just recently verti drained the greens with 8mm solid tines 100mm deep, to allow oxygen and water to enter the root zone. We also added calcium, Magnesium and organics while the greens were open. A full renovation of the greens will be done after the club champs in November.

A second application of Primo (growth retardant) was added to the greens 200ml / hect.

The tees have been renovated. All 18 tees received coring with a ½ inch hollow tine going 100mm deep. The tees then received 5kg/hect of calcium and fertiliser to try and get some early growth and colour.

All the cores taken off the tees were added to the 18th fairway, on the mounds to try and get grass to grow.

We also added the first stage of fairway irrigation to the green end of the 18th fairway. We have basically gone from the front of the green, down 70 meters to where stage 2 will commence. We added 6 sprinklers to this area each putting out 2 litres a second. Once the system was installed, we then turfed a few bare areas on the fairway including the bare area where the old tree on the corner was.
